Artist Biography:

Granmother’s Journey from Tempe to Areyonga from Tempe Downs to Areyonga then Hermansburg to Jay Creek.

Marie has created a series of paintings about her grandmother’s journeys through the central Australian desert regions;  the spiritual and physical journeys translated into contemporary images based on traditional Aboriginal iconography.  Her grandmother travelled with cameleers, riding camels with them.  She assisted them with local knowledge of tracks, water holes, food sources and cooking.  These and other desert survival skills were essential for the lengthy and difficult journeys, transporting supplies and goods on camels through the desert regions.

Marie was born in NSW in 1968, and is the descendant of Stolen Generation Indigenous ancestors from Central Australia.  She became determined to explore her Aboriginal  background/ancestry several years ago, which brought Marie and her family “back” to Central Australia.  She mad connections with relations and kin in the region, and gained more familiarity with her grandmother’s story, which inspired her.

She is now residing in Alice Springs with her family of seven children, and partner, who is also a contemporary indigenous solo artist.

Marie is a popular local Artist; her work is shown and sold in Alice Springs galleries;  and included in private collections in Australia and overseas.
