Artist Biography:

Edith paints her family Dreaming, she says:  “this tree is my mother’s, her brother’s and sisters’ and their childrens’ totem.  I am so proud to be part of this beautiful, giving tree.  It makes me so happy and brings me joy to tell the world about our little corner of the world, and about this tree...that was and still is our shelter and food provider.” (for thousands of years).
This tree grows in the N/E area of Central Australia, and it is the only area where it grows, amongst the sandy desert dunes.
The yellow and brown dots are the seeds that have fallen.  They are gathered and ground between two stones, then mixed with water, made into patties and baked on hot coals, for food.
The green leaves stay shiny and green even through droughts.
The women carried colourful coolimans (black oval shapes), to collect the seeds.
In this dry desert region, indigenous people could use the water in some of the roots of this tree, to quench their thirst.
